Hindon Airport cancels several morning flights ahead of Air Force Day celebrations

Several flights from Ghaziabad’s Hindon Airport have been canceled between 8.30 am and 11.30 am from October 6 to 8 due to a full dress rehearsal ahead of the Indian Air Force’s Foundation Day celebrations on Wednesday, officials said.Currently, over 40 flights operate daily to and from Hindon Airport to 16 cities after operations at the airport were increased this March with the entry of carriers like Air India Express and Indigo.Officials said flight operations will return to normalcy after 11.30 am on October 8.Story continues below this adSpeaking to The Indian Express, newly appointed Airport director, Dr. Mahesh Chilaka, said several Indigo and Air India Express flights have been cancelled for the Foundation Day that is being celebrated at the Hindon Air Force Station after three years. “Flights taking off from the airport between 8.30 am and 11.30 am will remain cancelled and, consequently, the airspace at Hindon Civil Terminal will be closed at the same time,” he said.These flights connect seven major cities including Bengaluru, Varanasi, Patna, Chennai, Kolkata, Goa, Bhubaneshwar.The officials also maintained that the cancelled flights include those taking off from other cities at the same time and scheduled to land at Hindon Airport.Officials also said no heavy commercial vehicles will be allowed to travel to Hindon Air Force Station on Wednesday.Story continues below this ad“Heavy vehicles will also be prohibited from Hindon River Metro Station towards Rotary Roundabout, from Rotary Roundabout towards Nagdwar. Movement from Karhera Cut GT Road towards Hindon Air Force Roundabout, from Mohan Nagar towards Roundabout, and from Karan Gate Roundabout towards Roundabout will also be prohibited,” for the next two days, officials said.Hindon Airport was inaugurated as a commercial civil terminal on March 8, 2019, to serve a few regional routes under the Government’s Regional Connectivity Scheme (UDAN).The first scheduled UDAN flight from Hindon was operated by Heritage Aviation to Pithoragarh in 2019; later, a Star Air flight operated from Hubli to Hindon.Over time, operations gradually ramped up, especially with the entry of larger carriers like Air India Express that began operations from Hindon from March 1, 2025, to Bengaluru, Goa and Kolkata. It now services Mumbai, Chennai, ⁠Patna and ⁠Varanasi.Story continues below this adOn July 20 this year, Indigo launched flights from Hindon to eight cities including Bengaluru, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Indore, Patna, and Varanasi.Others like Flybig operate to Bhatinda and ⁠Ludhiana while Star Air operates flights to Adampur, ⁠Bengaluru, ⁠Hyderabad, ⁠Bahalgavi, ⁠Ajmer, ⁠Nagpur, ⁠Nanded and ⁠Pune.
