Two Maharashtra Security Force (MSF) personnel and a police constable quickly reached the spot and jumped into the sea to save the lone occupant of the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Prashnukar Battiwala, a resident of Tardeo.During the initial probe, a breathalyser test found that Battiwala, 45, was under the influence of alcohol. His blood sample has also been taken, and a medical report is yet to be received, said a police officer. He was rushed to the hospital and is currently stable, according to the police.The Worli police registered a case against Battiwala under sections 281 (rash driving), 125 (rash and negligence act), 324 (3) (commits mischief and thereby causes loss or damage to any property) 324 (4) (commits mischief and thereby causes loss or damage) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) along with Section 185 (driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs) of Motor Vehicles Act.Story continues below this adAccording to the police, the accident occurred around 10.50 pm when Battiwala was travelling from Mahalaxmi towards Worli. When he reached the opposite Naman building, he was allegedly driving at a very high speed and lost control, crashing into a divider. Due to the impact of the hit, the car flew off the road, broke the railings and landed in the sea, according to the police.“Two personnel, Pandurang Kale and Vikash Rathod from MSF, as well as Constable Dhonde from the Byculla police station, who were trained in swimming, jumped into the sea. They successfully retrieved Battiwala and rushed him to a hospital,” said Senior Inspector Arvind Patil of the Worli police station.“Luckily, it was not very deep (where Battiwala fell), and there was no high tide. The police received the report about the accident quickly and rushed to the scene to save him,” Patil added.Police waiting for medical report“According to the preliminary investigation, it appears that Battiwala was drunk. The medical report will confirm whether he was solely under the influence of alcohol or if he had consumed any other substances,” said Patil.Story continues below this adHe said Battiwala’s initial statement was recorded at night, but he was feeling scared and unwell, so the police advised him to take a rest. The police will re-record his statement, he added.Meanwhile, the car was left in the sea overnight, and the police contacted the fire brigade for assistance with its removal.Another officer said a team of 12 police personnel from the Worli, Tardeo, and Byculla police stations regularly conducts patrols from Worli seaface to Mahalaxmi, accompanied by MSF staff.
