(AP Photo)Israel Gaza talks in Egypt live updates: Delegations from Israel and Hamas held talks on the first day of indirect negotiations in Egypt on Monday and deliberated on the 20-point peace plan presented by US President Donald Trump to pause the two-year-old war in Gaza. The plan has been raging with contentious issues such as Israel’s withdrawal from Gaza Strip and Hamas’ disarmament. Talks began with a meeting between Arab mediators and Hamas delegation and the mediators were then scheduled to meet the Israeli delegation, Egypt’s state-owned Al-Qahera news reported.Prospects of breakthrough: Gaza residents are expecting ceasefire as their last hope with Israeli forces raging their way into Gaza City and flattening neighbourhoods as they advance. The death toll in the conflict has risen to over 67,000 in Palestine. In Israel, there is a clamour to end the war in Gaza and bring the hostages back, however, the right-wing members of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s cabinet have opposed any pause on the fighting.Story continues below this adTrump pushes for deal: US President Donald Trump told reporters at the White House on Monday that he thinks a deal is going to be finalised as the delegations meet in Egypt. “I really think we’re going to have a deal. We have a really good chance of making a deal, and it’ll be a lasting deal,” Trump said.
