Samsung has unveiled a new 200MP camera sensor for smartphones. It is a smaller sensor compared to the company's previous 200MP sensors but still promises improved image and video quality with the use of several new technologies. It could be used by several smartphone brands in the near future.ISOCELL HP5 is Samsung's newest 200MP camera sensorThe ISOCELL HP5 is a 1/1.56-inch camera sensor with 200MP (16,384 x 12,288 pixels) resolution, resulting in each pixel measuring at just 0.5µm.This is Samsung's smallest 200MP camera sensor. However, the company claims that it doesn't skimp on quality, as newer technologies like Dual Vertical Transfer Gate (D-VTG) and Front Deep Trench Isolation (FDTI) improve the Full Well Capacity of each pixel. The company's improved Deep Trench Isolation (DTI) technology called DTI Center Cut (DCC), opens a part of the trench between four photodiodes to improve autofocus and noise reduction.Samsung claims that it offers 150% increase in conversion gain and a 3-40% improvement in random noise (RN) reduction. This improves the image and video quality in low-light conditions. To improve light reception at the pixel level, the ISOCELL HP5 uses a high-precision microlens that focuses all the light intake to the right area of a pixel. Samsung is also using a High Transmittance Anti-refractive Layer to minimize reflection of light that enters a pixel. The company is using an oxide-based insulation structure to reduce interference and decrease light loss. These technologies make sure that a pixel can make the most of the light that enters the system. This new sensor, like other 200MP camera sensor, offers in-sensor zoom for 2x optical quality zoom shots. And when the ISOCELL HP5 is paired with a 3x optical zoom lens, it offers 6x lossless zoom. It uses Super QPD (PDAF) for a reliable autofocus mechanism.Samsung has also used Smart ISO Pro and Staggered HDR in the ISOCELL HP5 for high-quality HDR images and videos.Smart ISO Pro: It captures two frames (High/Mid ISO and Low ISO) simultaneously to capture 13-bit images with up to 550 billion colors.Staggered HDR: It captures long, medium, and short exposure images simultaneously and then merges them into a single image for high dynamic range. The sensor can use the remosaic algorithm to create 200MP images in less than two seconds. It can also record up to Full HD videos at 240fps, up to 4K videos at 120fps, and up to 8K videos at 30fps. The ISOCELL HP5 can also capture images in 8-bit, 10-bit, 12-bit, and 14-bit RAW files.Which phones will use this 200MP camera sensor?Previous reports claim that the ISOCELL HP5 will be used in the OPPO Find X9 Pro for the telephoto camera. The device will likely be announced on October 16.More Chinese smartphone brands will reportedly use this sensor. However, Samsung itself is not expected to use it in any Galaxy smartphones in the near future. The post Samsung’s new 200MP camera sensor is here with improved image quality appeared first on SamMobile.
