Primary Health Centre (PHC) doctors have decided to continue their strike as the talks held on Tuesday with Principal Secretary (Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare) Saurabh Gaur failed to make any headway.Members of the Andhra Pradesh Primary Health Centres’ Doctors’ Association said the Principal Secretary assured them of a 20% quota in diploma courses in clinical subjects. However, there was no conclusive decision on their main demand — fixing a 20% quota for PHC doctors in clinical branches of postgraduate (PG) courses for the next five years. According to association representatives, Mr. Gaur initially proposed a 15% quota for five years but did not finalise the offer. “There is no progress in the discussions with the government. We will continue our strike,” said association spokesperson Vinod Kumar, who attended the meeting.Meanwhile, a few doctors from area and district hospitals across the State joined the strike on Tuesday in solidarity with the PHC doctors’ demands.Published - October 07, 2025 11:40 pm IST
