The Kudumbashree district mission is planning a special campaign in connection with the 12th anniversary celebrations of its ‘Snehitha’ gender help desk.Since 2013, Snehitha has intervened in 489 cases of sexual exploitation of children.Against this backdrop, a campaign ‘A promise to protect’ is being launched in Thiruvananthapuram district on Thursday to prevent sexual violence against children.The campaign aims at protecting children against sexual crimes and making them and their parents aware and equipped to recognise and prevent such crimes.Year-long campaignThe year-long campaign will include a number of programmes. One of the first will be discussions on violence against children in all Kudumbashree self-help groups so that the SHG members and by extension their families understand and take steps to prevent such incidents.Awareness will also be created among students who are part of school gender clubs and their parents of the grievous impact of such crimes on the personality and personal relationships of the children. Kudumbashree’s Balasabha members and parents of the members will also take part in awareness campaigns.Social media awareness and a reels campaign will also be held.Kudumbashree resource persons will organise training of trainer sessions at CDS level as part of the campaign.The campaign launch will be held in the presence of the district child welfare committee chairperson and representatives from the health sector and the police.Snehitha functions round the clock in association with the Kudumbashree State and district missions, district legal services authority, police, Excise, Women and Child Development department and the Social Justice department, and non-governmental organisations to provide a safe space for women and children and provide various kinds of support of survivors of violence against women and children.Published - October 10, 2025 10:15 pm IST
