It is however the form of the National Stakes at the Curragh last month that looks stronger, and Zavateri can confirm the form of the race and finish ahead of Gstaad once again. He comes here with a perfect record of four wins from four runs, and although the last two of these have been by small margins, he was conceding weight to others at Goodwood, and shaped like the best horse in the race at the Curragh and was always doing enough to win, hitting the line strongly and giving the impression there was more to come if it was needed.On official ratings Zavateri is the best horse in this race and he has achieved the most to date. He can confirm this and maintain his perfect record.3.40 Newmarket – Dawn Rising @ 8/1The Cesarewitch Handicap has been won by Irish trained horses for the last three years and there is every chance they are going to extend this record this weekend, given that ten of the 21 runners are Irish trained.Unlike the Irish equivalent where Joseph O’Brien trained eight of the field, he relies on just the one runner here with Dawn Rising. Following a couple of disappointing efforts he returned to form at the Galway Races with a good second placed finish, and more recently finished fifth in the Irish equivalent of this. He races here off the same mark, which is 7lb lower than when he finished seventh in the race last year, and has the benefit of champion jockey-elect Oisin Murphy taking the ride, who is operating at a strike-rate of 21% over the past fortnight. Provided he turns up in the same form he has been in recently, he stands a good chance of returning to the winners’ enclosure for the first time since November.4.50 Newmarket – Alfa Kellenic @ 6/1The final selection comes in the Listed Boadicea Stakes where a chance is to be taken on Alfa Kellenic. She was in superb form in 2024 winning six races in a row, before a fifth placed finish in this race on ground that would have been softer than ideal for her. She returned to action for the first time this year in the Ayr Gold Cup, and this was a slightly underwhelming effort, although, the ground that day will have also been softer than ideal, and she is also entitled to come on for that run, having been off the track for 343 days. With a run under her belt and ground to suit, she can gain black type for the first time here.
