Police said the victims were from various districts of Maharashtra and one of the FIRs registered against Rathod at Sahar police station in Mumbai last month was transferred to the EOW.Rathod was produced in a Delhi court before he was brought to Mumbai in four days’ transit remand, said a police officer. Rathod is a native of Barshi taluka in Solapur district.According to police, one of the FIRs was registered by one Santosh Kharpude, a resident of Navi Mumbai who was looking for a job for his niece. The victim had paid Rs 4 lakh to the accused for a government job. The accused allegedly posed as a deputy secretary with the Staff Selection Commission (SSC). Rathod allegedly promised the job aspirants in various departments and took money in installments, said police officer.The accused used to meet victims in a five-star hotel in the western suburbs and collect money from them. He has been duping people for more than three years by charging Rs 10 lakh from each for the job. He even gave forged appointment letters to the victims and promised them joining letters also. People realised that they were duped when they started asking about joining letters and accused started avoiding them, added the official.The victims then approached the police and registered FIRs against him. The official said they are looking for others may be involved with Rathod, who was the mastermind of the job racket.
