From threatening comedian Kapil Sharma and warning Bollywood against working with actor Salman Khan to making extortion calls to Delhi businessmen, Hari Chand Jaat — better known by his alias Harry Boxer — has quickly risen in notoriety.After two of his shooters were arrested by the Delhi Police Special Cell last week, the gangster not only sent an audio message to the Delhi Police but also emerged as the latest name to dominate their radar.A team from the Special Cell arrested his associates — Kartik Jakhar (29) and Kavish Phutela (25), who hail from Sri Ganganagar in Rajasthan — in East Delhi. The duo are prominent members of the Harry Boxer-Rohit Godara gang.Additional Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) P S Kushwaha told the media that the accused opened fire at the police team, which led to retaliatory firing in self-defence. As a result, Jakhar sustained a gunshot injury to his leg.Later, a purported audio clip of Harry surfaced on social media. In it, he claimed that the Special Cell had picked up his associate, Jakhar, and that he could be harmed. He added that he has no animosity toward the police or the administration and urged that his associate be produced in court.While police said they are investigating the audio clip’s authenticity, they have intensified efforts to take strict action against the Harry Boxer gang and its members.Earlier, police had identified five most wanted gangsters — Himanshu Bhau, Surya Pratap alias Noni Rana, Satinderjeet Singh alias Goldy Brar, Rohit Godara and Kapil Sangwan — who are allegedly operating from abroad. Harry has now joined the list.Story continues below this adEven before the arrest of Jakhar and Phutela, police had been getting complaints from businessmen in East and Southeast Delhi that they were receiving extortion calls from Harry.In one such extortion message, Harry allegedly demanded Rs 5 crore from the businessman.According to a police officer, Harry has been booked in multiple cases of extortion with regard to businessmen and property dealers in Rajasthan and Punjab in the past few months. Besides, he faces over 10 cases related to robbery, attempted murder, and assault in various parts of Rajasthan, including Jaipur, Alwar, Sikar, Dholpur, and Karauli.Harry is currently believed to be based in the US and is a member of Godara’s gang. Meanwhile, police suspect that Godara has split from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, although Harry continues to present himself as its member.Story continues below this adHailing from Narayanpur in Rajasthan, a police officer said Harry’s father is a farmer. He graduated from a college in Bansur in Alwar, and prepared for the police, Army and SSC exams.“He even pursued boxing and worked as a coach for some time in Jaipur. After he became involved in criminal activities, his parents disowned him,” the officer said.The officer said Harry has been absconding since 2022 from Rajasthan. It is suspected had fled to the US via Nepal.He was involved in allegedly assaulting a retired IAS officer and a police officer. His name also cropped up in a firing incident outside a club in Jaipur, the officer said.Story continues below this adIn August, a purported audio clip of Harry surfaced on social media — a day after shots were fired at Kapil Sharma’s cafe in Canada. In it, the gangster can be heard issuing a warning to Bollywood, threatening that any producer, director, or actor — big or small — who works with Salman Khan will be targeted. He also said he is a member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.The Bishnoi gang has held a long-standing grudge against Khan over the 1998 blackbuck poaching case in Jodhpur, dating back to when Lawrence was a teenager. Following an attack near Khan’s residence last April, allegedly by Bishnoi gang shooters, the actor’s security was heightened.After the incident, the Maharashtra Police also increased Sharma’s security at his residence in Mumbai.
