(Source: File)The sudden death of an Indian-origin Microsoft engineer in Silicon Valley has led his family to call on tech companies to pay closer attention to the dangers of workplace stress and long hours.ARTICLE CONTINUES BELOW VIDEOThe deceased has been identified as Pratik Pandey, 35, who was found face-down at 2 am on August 20 in a courtyard at Microsoft’s Mountain View, California campus, Palo Alto, according the Daily Post reports. An initial assessment from the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner pointed to a heart attack, according to the community leader Satish Chandra.Pandey migrated from India in 2010 for his studies had earned a master’s degree from San Jose State University and worked at Apple, Illumina, and Walmart Labs before joining Microsoft in July 2020. At the company, he worked on Microsoft Fabric, a data analytics tool competing with Snowflake Inc.His uncle, Manoj told the Daily Post that Pandey was “overall, a very positive person” but has developed a reputation for late nights at work for a “very extended period of time.” He recalled that Pandey had gone into the office shortly before 8pm the night before he died.Manoj urged Microsoft and other firms to recognise the human toll of job pressures, “that will probably save a life,” he said. “It’s a lot of pain for the family when a loved one passes away,” his uncle told the Daily Post.While Pandey had reportedly felt stressed in the days leading up to his death, he had no known health issues, Chandra told the Daily Post. Authorities said there was no evidence of foul play. Bloomberg reported that Mountain View police are not treating the case a criminal matter.According to the PEOPLE, they contacted the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office and Mountain View Police Department for comment but did not immediately receive response.
