(Pic: Karan/Instagram)Ibrahim Ali Khan’s debut film Nadaaniyan was severely criticised upon its release earlier this year. The film’s lead actors – Ibrahim Ali Khan and Khushi Kapoor – were criticised for their performances, among other aspects of the film. Now, film actor Zareen Khan has questioned why producers like Karan Johar are keen on backing actors who have failed to prove themselves and said that since they continue to get opportunities, they have no motivation to work on themselves.ARTICLE CONTINUES BELOW VIDEOCalling Nadaaniyan “frivolous”, she told Faridoon Shahryar on his YouTube channel, “When we speak about Ibrahim’s Nadaaniyan. I’m sorry, but it feels like a very frivolous film. Kya hi acting kar loge tum usme (What acting skills can you show in that film?). I have not seen his second film Sarzameen, it looks like an intense film and you are saying that he is a little better in that film. Maybe he needs a director who can guide him because I have heard that about a lot of actors, for example, Deepika, she was also very unpolished when she came to the industry, but Sanjay Leela Bhansali polished her.”She went on to explain how young directors in the Hindi film industry, who don’t yet have an established body of work, often feel intimidated and scared to guide star kids or the so-called “favourites” of production houses, fearing that they might lose the film altogether. Also read | ‘The Kapoors would laugh at us, but watched our films’: Bollywood’s ‘other’ film family also came from Pak, attained ‘sleazy’ successZareen further argued that despite failing to impress audiences with their performances, star kids often continue to get film offers, which prevents them from working on their craft. She said, “I debuted with the biggest superstar (Salman Khan) of the country but all the criticism that I faced that time, it was so difficult for me to get work ahead. I didn’t have a Karan Johar to back me up, irrespective (of the audience’s opinion) making films for me. I think that matters a lot. If you’re getting back-to-back films, even though you are not up to the mark, then why will they work on themselves? They will get comfortable.”For the unversed, Nadaaniyan was bankrolled by Karan Johar. He has also launched several star kids in his films in recent years, including Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Janhvi Kapoor, Ananya Panday, and many others.Zareen was last seen in the 2021 release Hum Bhi Akele Tum Bhi Akele.Click here to follow Screen Digital on YouTube and stay updated with the latest from the world of cinema.© IE Online Media Services Pvt Ltd
