I get why people let their pets ride loose in the car. It’s just that we really shouldn’t.I don’t have a perfect record on this front. On too many cross-country road trips over the years, my wife and I have caved and let one of our cats, Tigerette, out of her carrier in the backseat. We usually did this after she’d been yowling for hundreds of miles, and we just couldn’t take it anymore. She’d inevitably crawl to the front and stand on my lap as I drove, lashing her tail at every passing truck and sedan (enemies, obviously). But in my reporting on traveling with pets, every single expert I’ve spoken with strongly recommends restraining pets when they’re riding in the car with you. So now I’m like a third-year medical student: I know too much. And I have zero chill when it comes to car rides with my precious pets. Apologies in advance — but I’m about to ruin it for you, too.
