Soil tests begin for 13.5-km-long elevated corridor along East Coast Road

Wait 5 sec.

Driving by Injambakkam on the East Coast Road (ECR) recently, you might have noticed barricades on the median. These are temporary barricades placed by the contractor constructing the ₹2,100-crore 13.5-km long four-lane wide Thiruvanmiyur – Uthandi elevated corridor, conducting soil tests. The tests will be conducted over the next few months at a total of 430 points where pillars of the elevated corridor will come up. “We will pick up samples of soil and see at what depth we hit different layers of sand, clay, soft rock, and hard rock for up to 25 metres. These will be sent to our design department, which will design the foundation and other structures according to the soil layers,” explained an engineer associated with the project. Published - April 01, 2026 12:06 am IST
