KITUI, Kenya Apr 1 – Security agencies in Kitui have intensified patrols following a fatal attack in the Mwingi Game Reserve that has triggered tensions, alleged retaliatory violence, and an ongoing multi-county investigation.According to a police report, the incident occurred on March 29, 2026, when a 44-year-old Kamba man was found murdered with his throat slit within the game reserve.The killing immediately sparked suspicion within the local community, with some residents alleging that the attackers were of Somali origin, although authorities have not confirmed these claims.Following the killing, reports indicate that Kamba herders allegedly staged a retaliatory ambush at a watering point known as Itimba, raising fears of escalating inter-community tensions.Police say they visited the scene but did not recover any bodies at the location.Further investigations suggest that members of the affected community allegedly collected the bodies and transported them through Mwingi Game Reserve to Boka in Tana River County, where they are believed to have been buried.A local administrator in the Odowan location, Tana River County, confirmed receiving details of the deceased and provided identification information.All are reported to belong to the Ogaden-Aulian clan.
