NAIROBI, Kenya Apr 1 – The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has postponed its Repeat Phase II grassroots elections by two weeks, citing requests from members for more time to register and verify their details.In a notice dated March 31, 2026, the party’s National Elections Board (NEB) announced that the exercise, which had initially been slated for April 9, will now be conducted on April 23, 2026, between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.NEB Chairman Anthony Mwaura said the decision followed extensive consultations and appeals from party members in the affected regions who sought additional time to regularize their membership status ahead of the polls.“The rescheduling is informed by requests received from party members in the affected counties for additional time to register and verify their membership details,” the notice read in part.The repeat grassroots elections will be carried out across 22 counties, including Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, Tana River, Lamu, Taita Taveta, Garissa, Wajir, Mandera, Marsabit, Isiolo, Kitui, Machakos, Makueni, Turkana, Kajiado, Bungoma, Siaya, Kisumu, Migori, Kisii, and Nyamira.At the same time, the party has extended its membership registration deadline to April 10, 2026, at 5:00 p.m., with verification of members’ details set to take place on April 11 and 12.UDA has urged all eligible members, aspirants, leaders, and stakeholders to take advantage of the extended timelines to ensure their details are accurately captured ahead of the elections.The grassroots polls are a key exercise for the ruling party as it seeks to strengthen its internal structures and consolidate its support base at the local level.
