Under Donald Trump, billionaires made $1.5 trillion, Trump doubled his own fortune. Meanwhile, 40% Americans can’t even save $500

Wait 5 sec.

Donald Trump may not have been able to provide help to the millions of Americans he promised financial relief to prior to the election but he has been able to make his rich pals even richer while making a tidy profit himself. Plenty of people who voted for Trump did so because they genuinely believed him when he promised to tackle the cost of living. Yet here we are, well over a year into his second term and things have not gotten better, in fact they’ve gotten worse, way worse than even the most pessimistic of us could have predicted. Trump has gutted the Affordable Care Act, destroyed families and started a war leaving many across the country facing the worst financial crisis ever. But while the poor get poorer, the president and his rich buddies are only getting richer. In fact, a recent survey indicated that 40% of Americans had less than $500 in savings. Responding to the bleak survey results, Democrat politician Melanie D’Arrigo called out the president and his friends, claiming that U.S. billionaires have increased their wealth by a whopping $1.5 trillion while Trump had doubled his net worth. Meanwhile, U.S. billionaires increased their wealth by $1.5 trillion over the last year under Trump, and Trump doubled his net worth. This is by design. https://t.co/55pPXRbznQ— Melanie D'Arrigo (@DarrigoMelanie) April 1, 2026 It’s crazy to think that, despite this, there are still people out there that insist Donald Trump is a man of the people. He has never been a man of the people and he never will be, his actions have proven that he is in it for entirely selfish reasons. How is Donald Trump making so much money? According to data from brennancenter.org, President Trump has pocketed an estimated $3 billion in profits since January 2025. His family has made much more. A great deal of this money allegedly comes directly foreign government seeking to gain favor with the president. Essentially his policies are being dictated by who’s willing to pay the most. Of course, the average American will never see a cent of that money, but they will feel the effects of whatever policy Trump brings in. Take the tariffs for example. A disastrous attempt to show that the U.S. doesn’t need trade with the rest of the world. It’s well documented that the tariffs caused prices for goods to soar for Americans, however, Trump’s rich friends were still able to make a nice profit off of the whole thing. The president is also being scrutinized for insider trading after $580 million worth of oil trades were placed less than an hour before Trump announced he was holding talks with Iran. Is this even legal? While presidential profiteering is certainly frowned upon it’s not technically illegal, (although we doubt that would stop him anyway). The president is exempt from the ethical rules that apply to other federal officials that prevent them from participating in government matters that could be financially beneficial for them or their family. Trump is allowed to do this. He is also allowed to accept gifts from people or companies with an interest in what he’s doing according to brennancenter.org.
