AAP MLA’s sarpanch brother-in-law booked for setting belongings of Dalit families on fire

(File Photo)The Punjab Police Wednesday said that they booked the sarpanch of Veinpuri, a village in Tarn Taran, for allegedly setting on fire belonging of two Dalit families. Sarpanch Baldev Singh Gora is the brother-in-law of Aam Aadmi Party’s Khadoor Sahib MLA Manjinder Singh Lalpura.As per the a complaint lodged with the police, Gora allegedly reached the house of the two Dalit families over some issue and set their belongings on fire by pouring petrol. Upon receiving information about the incident, SP (Headquarters) Sukhmanninder Singh, SDM Sanjeev Sharma, and other officials reached the spot. The Goindwal Sahib police has recorded statements of the victim families and registered a case against six individuals, including Gora.According to FIR, one Dalbir Kaur said that she lives in the village with her son Lovepreet Singh. Late in the evening, while she was alone at home, Sarpanch Gora, Sukhwinder Singh Sukha, Gurbans Singh Ganji, Jobanjeet Singh, Alu, and three-four unidentified persons, carrying weapons, entered her house. According to the complainant, Gora inquired about her son, who was not at home. On his orders, his associates forcibly entered the rooms, set fire to her belonging by sprinkling petrol they had brought in bottles, and fled. Her relatives arrived after hearing the commotion, and extinguished the fire.Dalbir Kaur added that she learned they had also entered and set fire to the belongings of Sukhdev Singh alias Sonu, son of Shingara Singh, in the village. She explained that a minor dispute had taken place a few days ago between her son Lovepreet Singh and Gora.SP Sukhmanninder Singh, who along with DSP Atul Soni, and SHO Prabhjeet Singh, arrived at the scene, said that a case has been registered against the sarpanch, his five associates, and 2-3 unidentified persons under the relevant sections of SC/ST Act and Arms Act.
