March 2026 had one fewer selling day than March 2025, meaning that sales fell by 10.5% YoY on a selling day-adjusted basis. The daily selling rate was measured at 55.6k units/day in March, up from 49.2k units/day in February. The annualized selling rate was estimated at 16.2 million units/year in March, up from 15.6 million units/year in February. Retail sales were estimated at 1.13 million units, down by 16.2% YoY, while fleet sales were thought to total 258k units, down by 2.3% YoY.Source: GlobalDataOEM AnalysisGeneral Motors Group was again the nation’s bestselling OEM in March, with its market share little changed from February, at 16.9%, representing volumes of 234k units. This is among the automaker’s lower market shares over the past 12 months. Toyota Group was second, with sales of 212k units, for a market share of 15.2%. However, the most remarkable result was that Hyundai Group outsold Ford Group to take third place, once Ford’s medium-heavy Pickups had been excluded. Hyundai Group claimed a 12.1% market share with 168k units sold, while Ford Group sold around 600 fewer Light Vehicles, a total that also rounded to a 12.1% share. This was the first time since July 2021 that Hyundai Group had surpassed Ford Group in monthly sales. At a brand level, Toyota remained at the top of the rankings, on 183k units, followed by Ford on 159k units and Chevrolet on 153k units.Model AnalysisFor a second consecutive month, the Honda CR-V led the sales rankings, with volumes of 40.8k units. The Model Y had not appeared in the top five since December 2025, though it is typical for Tesla sales to peak at the end of a quarter. The Toyota RAV4 is still struggling with a lack of inventory of its new generation, and so it failed to make the top five for a second straight month, selling 21.7k units.Segment AnalysisThough March is usually a strong month for Compact SUV sales – and that remained broadly true this year – the segment’s market share was somewhat impacted by the RAV4’s lower volumes.
