A little background: I have a truck. This is both a blessing and a curse. Most of my friends know I have a truck and most of them have at some point asked to borrow it or asked for help moving, which is fine, I'm a helpful person, I've helped a lot of people move and I don't usually mind. What I do mind is what happened last month with someone I'll call my "friend of a friend" situation, a guy named Marcus who I have met exactly four times. Marcus messaged me out of nowhere asking if I could help him move the following Saturday. I said I might be able to help for a couple hours in the morning but I had plans in the afternoon. He said great and that he'd "take care of me." I assumed this meant pizza and gas money, the standard moving compensation package. Saturday comes, I show up, the apartment is not remotely packed. We spend six hours moving Marcus. At the end he hands me a piece of paper which is a handwritten note saying he'd post about my "hauling services" on his instagram which has 340 followers, and that he could connect me with people who need movers. I stared at this note for a while. I said I wasn't actually a moving company, just a person with a truck who did him a favor. He seemed genuinly surprised and said he thought that's what "taking care of me" meant. Then, and this is the part I keep telling people because nobody beleives me, he asked if I could also take a couch to the donation center on my way home because it "wouldn't fit in the new place" and he'd shout me out twice on instagram if I did. I did not take the couch. I did not recieve a shoutout. I have not heard from Marcus since. submitted by /u/9PrismRover [link] [comments]
