The UEFA Women’s Champions League quarterfinals conclude this week with all seven American players aiming to remain in this season’s competition. Lily Yohannes and Lyon return to the Groupama Stadium on Thursday seeking to turnaround a 1-0 aggregate deficit against Wolfsburg. Yohannes came off the bench to play 19 minutes in last week’s first leg loss in Germany before most recently scoring in Saturday’s 2-2 league draw with Strasbourg. The 18-year-old midfielder has enjoyed a positive first season with Lyon, scoring five goals and adding five assists in 26 appearances. After breaking in with Ajax’s first team over the past two campaigns, Yohannes has taken another major step forward in her development. Wolfsburg’s slim victory snapped Lyon’s 30-match unbeaten run across all competitions, handing the French club their first defeat since April 27, 2025. If the French giants want to avoid a major upset, they will need a much more convincing showing against the two-time UWCL winners.
