President Trump, who faced criticism for hosting the pro-Hitler Fuentes at a dinner in 2022, defends far-right podcaster Tucker Carlson’s interview with the white supremacist influencer.By World Israel News StaffPresident Donald Trump defended right-wing podcaster Tucker Carlson over the weekend, after Carlson sparked controversy in the conservative movement with his interview of white supremacist and Hitler apologist Nick Fuentes.Speaking with reporters on the tarmac before departing from West Palm Beach, Florida on Sunday night, Trump was asked what role Carlson should have in the conservative movement and the Republican party after he sat down with Fuentes in a conversation that touched on Fuentes’ fear of “organized Jewry” and the two men’s shared dislike for the State of Israel.“Well, I found him to be good, I mean, he said good things about me over the years,” Trump said of Carlson. “I think he is good, we had some good interviews. I did an interview with him where we had 300 million hits. You know that.”Trump claimed he knew little about Fuentes, despite himself being embroiled in a scandal with the white supremacist influencer, after Fuentes attended a dinner at Trump’s estate in 2022.“I’ve had some great interviews with Tucker Carlson, but you can’t tell him who to interview. I mean, if he wants to interview Nick Fuentes, I don’t know much about him, but if he wants to do it, get the word out. Let him. Ultimately, people have to decide.”“Well, I didn’t know he was coming, and he was with, as you know, somebody – Kanye. Kanye asked if he could have dinner and he brought Nick. I didn’t know Nick at the time. And he did, along with a few other people – he brought a few people with him.”The president downplayed Carlson’s interview with Fuentes, saying hosts frequently choose “controversial” guests.“Meeting people, talking to people, for somebody like Tucker, that’s what they do. You know, people are controversial. I’m not controversial, so I like it that way.”Carlson took to social media to respond to Trump’s remarks, writing: “Thank you Mr. President!”The October 27th interview quickly sparked a firestorm on the right, dividing Trump’s MAGA base and drawing in the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank.Following pressure on Heritage to cut ties with Carlson, the organization’s president, Kevin Roberts, issued a statement castigating Carlson’s right-wing critics as belonging to a “venomous coalition.”After his comments angered many within Heritage and prompted a number of Jewish groups to cut ties with the think tank, Roberts reiterated his criticism of Fuentes while vowing to challenge antisemitism, even if it involves Carlson. The post Trump backs Tucker Carlson after interview with white supremacist Nick Fuentes appeared first on World Israel News.
