Once upon a time, Marjorie Taylor Greene only had eyes for Donald Trump. The pair walked in lockstep on all things MAGA, with Greene openly professing her “love” for him to anyone who’d listen. Now that romance is dead. Stomped into bits by the continuing furore over the Jeffrey Epstein files and Trump’s involvement in them. For months, Trump has been bewildered by Greene siding with Epstein’s victims over him and demanding full disclosure, apparently musing to aides, “what’s up with Marjorie?” That puzzlement boiled over into outright hatred after Greene refused to bow to Oval Office pressure and voted for full disclosure. This was disobedience Trump couldn’t tolerate, and so he officially crossed her name off his “friends” list and scrawled it down under “traitors”. For Trump, she’s now “Marjorie “Traitor” Greene”, and he’s happily sicced his legions of maladapted basement-dwelling keyboard warriors onto her to make her life a misery. They did just that, with Greene explaining that there’s “a hot bed of threats against me are being fueled and egged on by the most powerful man in the world”, sadly noting that this is “the man I supported and helped get elected”. As for Trump? Well, Greene just learned what we’ve all known for the best part of a decade. Trump doesn’t care about friends, supporters, colleagues, or heck, even family. Trump cares about Trump, and anyone else is a footnote at best in his glorious life. As such, when quizzed about the death threats Greene is receiving, he dismissed them out of hand. Later, speaking to CNN, he said: “Marjorie ‘Traitor’ Green. I don’t think her life is in danger… I don’t think anybody cares about her.” Et tu, Marjorie? It feels cruel to say “we told you so” to Greene, who’s presumably distraught over this turn of events. But, well, “WE TOLD YOU SO.” Anyone working alongside Trump must know that he’ll not only dispose of you without a second thought, but maliciously try to ruin your life if he considers you’ve betrayed him. That said, while Greene may be politically homeless right now, if the impending Epstein revelations seriously damage Trump, she can credibly hold her head up high and tell voters that, unlike those other mewling and submissive Republicans, she’s a lady who sticks to her principles. Whether that’ll make her the new MAGA standard bearer remains to be seen, but either way, we’re going to continue chomping down popcorn and enjoying this soap opera-level political drama.
