The minister was speaking after inaugurating the Asian Seed Congress 2025 in Mumbai.ARTICLE CONTINUES BELOW VIDEOExpressing serious concern over the rising instances of poor quality seeds, Chouhan said, “The government is committed to ensuring high standards for which several measures have already been taken. The government will bring a new law to curb the poor quality seeds in the Parliament session.”Drawing attention to climatic challenges in the agriculture sector, Chouhan urged the seed industry to adapt to challenges and varieties to make it affordable. He called for increased participation in pulses and oilseeds production, emphasising the sector’s role in national food security. He also urged to ensure full compliance on the national SATHI (Seed Authentication, Traceability, and Holistic Inventory) portal, which mandates 100 percent registration for seed companies.Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, addressing the conclave, said: “Our government is committed to organic farming and strictly enforcing high quality seeds to help farmers achieve sustained farming.” He said, “In the next two to three years, we have set a target to bring 25 lakh hectares of land under organic farming. For this, we have also sought the seed industry to innovate and provide quality seeds.”According to Fadnavis, “India’s seed market, currently valued at 7.8 billion dollars, is projected to reach 19 billion dollars by 2030, with over 95 percent of seeds produced domestically.”The state government is focussing on transparency through mandatory certification, digital traceability and stricter action against counterfeit seeds, while also advancing agriculture through AI-based initiatives, he added.Earlier, Fadnavis said it was an honour for the state to host the conclave after ten years.
