Hamas condemns US-backed UN Security Council resolution establishing Gaza peacekeeping force, backtracks on support for Trump’s peace plan, claiming it only accepted phase one of the deal.By David Rosenberg, World Israel NewsThe Hamas terror organization on Tuesday denounced the United Nations Security Council resolution formally adopting President Donald Trump’s Gaza peace plan, while a spokesman for the group claimed that Hamas never accepted phase two of the plan.Following the UN Security Council’s vote approving Resolution 2803, mandating the establishment of the Board of Peace and the International Stabilization Force, Hamas’ leadership issued a statement condemning the measure and rejecting demands that it disarm.“The decision imposes international guardianship over the Strip, which we reject,” Hamas said. “It imposes a mechanism meant to assist the occupation in achieving the objectives it failed to achieve in the war.”“The decision that the stabilization force will disarm the Strip turns it into a party to the conflict — on behalf of the occupation. The resistance’s weapons are legitimate and are an internal Palestinian matter. The decision will turn humanitarian aid into a tool of coercion.”Later on Tuesday, Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem claimed that the Islamist group has not agreed to the entire 20-point American peace plan.“It is true that we agreed to the general framework of Trump’s plan, and especially to the first stage, which includes the prisoner exchange. However, the second stage requires discussions and contains explosive issues,” Qassem said.During the second stage of the plan, Israel will be required to gradually withdraw from the Gaza Strip, but only after Hamas disarms and international peacekeepers demilitarize the Gaza Strip.“The decision passed last night at the UN Security Council bypasses the Palestinians and their will, and it should only have been adopted after the issues were agreed upon on the Palestinian side. The decision imposes on us a reality that is biased in Israel’s favor, and therefore we reject it.”Qassem also touched on talks aimed at securing the safe passage of the 100 to 200 Hamas terrorists holed up in tunnels underneath the southern Gaza city of Rafah.Without giving details on the negotiations, Qassem said Hamas was willing to compromise in order to reach a solution securing the safe exit of its terrorists from Rafah.Reports earlier this week claimed that the terrorists have refused offers to be granted safe passage in exchange for surrendering their weapons to Israel. The post Hamas denies it accepted Trump’s Gaza plan, rejects UN resolution appeared first on World Israel News.
