ISLAMABAD: Former senator Mushtaq Ahmad Khan has denied media reports claiming he has joined the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).On Tuesday, the opposition alliance Tehreek-i-Tahafuz-i-Ayin-i-Pakistan (TTAP) held a march from Parliament House to the Supreme Court to protest against the recently enacted 27th Constitutional Amendment.Mushtaq Ahmad Khan participated in the march alongside TTAP Vice Chairman Senator Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan, PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja and PTI Senator Faisal Javed.Speaking to the media, he demanded the release of PTI founder Imran Khan and chanted slogans against what he described as “autocracy” in the country.He categorically rejected the 26th and 27th amendments, insisting that the Constitution should be restored to its original form.Mushtaq said he is the chairman of the Pakistan Rights Movement (PRM), which he described as a political and civil movement.Following the protest, a media report claimed that he had joined PTI. However, in a statement posted on social media, he strongly refuted the claim, saying:“I have not joined any political party. As Chairman of the Pakistan Rights Movement (PRM), I am struggling for democracy, a free parliament, an impartial judiciary, fundamental human rights, an end to enforced disappearances, and for the causes of Kashmir and Palestine.”Mushtaq Khan further stated that he supports TTAP’s objectives for democracy and against authoritarianism, and he stands with them through the platform of PRM.Last month, Mushtaq Ahmed joined TTAP, after leaving Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) following his arrival in the country following his release from Israeli prison. The Tehreek-e-Tahafuz Ayeen-e-Pakistan, is a political movement comprising six parties.Mushtaq Ahmed had called on TTAP Chief Mahmood Khan Achakzai and Allama Nasir Abbas, where the country’s overall existing political situation and the supremacy of law and the constitution were discussed.
