(File Photo)With the Supreme Court scheduled to hear the petition against OBC reservation in local body polls on November 25, zilla parishad elections in Maharashtra are likely to get delayed, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar said on Sunday.Meanwhile, the voting for 246 municipal councils and 42 nagar panchayats in Maharashtra is scheduled on December 2, and the counting is slated to be held on December 3.Accordingly, the process of nomination, scrutiny and withdrawal has been completed.The State Election Commission (SEC), though, has not announced the election schedule for 29 municipal corporations, 32 zilla parishads and 336 panchayat samitis, which are also due for polls.Why the uncertainty over the zilla parishad polls?The Supreme Court last week told the Maharashtra government to consider deferring the process of nomination for local body elections till the issue of 27 per cent OBC reservation is adjudicated.A bench of Justices Surya Kant, Ujjal Bhuyan and N Kotiswar Singh posted the matter for hearing on November 25.
