The Maradu police have arrested a 30-year-old woman for allegedly inflicting burn injuries on her four-year-old daughter using a hot spatula for disobeying her.The alleged incident, which happened on November 15, came to light on Monday when the child revealed her harrowing experience to her teachers who became suspicious after the girl appeared upset in the school.The police registered a case after the school authorities reported the incident. Police sources said the child had suffered burns on her hands and private parts. She has been given necessary medical care. It is suspected that the woman was provoked by strained relationships within the family, the police said.According to the statement given by the child, her mother was angry at her for spending time with her grandparents who live in the same house, a police officer said.The woman has been booked under Section 118(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for voluntarily causing hurt using dangerous weapons or means, and Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act for cruelty to a child.Published - November 18, 2025 06:58 pm IST
