Constitution Hill looked like he could be rejuvenated at Newbury’s gallops this morning when prepping for Newcastle’s Fighting Fifth Hurdle at the end of the month. And trainer Nicky Henderson was delighted with what he saw today. View this post on Instagram View Tweet: https://t.co/MqJGYkHfUhConstitution Hill was seen coasting clear of Therapist and Act Of Innocence.Henderson told At The Races after the gallop: “This gallop last year was a bit sort of confusing, I think there was one thing yeah he wasn’t where we wanted him at the time. “But you also have to bare in mind that everyone was sort of stating ‘oh he hasn’t worked very well’. Well at the time, we knew what Sir Gino was and unfortunately nobody else did.“And that’s what he was working with and that is something else and that was bit of an unfair question for Constitution Hill.“But this is completely different today, thank goodness.”“I think he’s just travelled nicely, he’s comfortable and he’s enjoying it i think that’s the great thing. I think that’s very much part of our whole preparation this year.”Constitution Hill breezing clear under Nico De Boinville at the Newbury gallops“He’s going to a racecourse and now thinking it’s good fun which was always where he was.”Of course, punters will remember he also looked strong in returning last season at the very same gallops last year.Seven Barrows had to make the tough decision to bypass numerous races in the 2023 season including the 2024 Cheltenham Festival, due to ongoing health setbacks. In March 2024 he was ruled out of the festival with a respiratory infection and blood test that also helped the decision to sideline the superstar.Trainer Henderson then had to announce on November 22nd 2024, that we would have to wait a bit longer to see him in action again.Confirming that the horse was showing signs of soreness from the gallops at Newbury last year.Stablemate Sir Gino stepped in and won convincingly to give Nicky the trophy regardless. That setback was exaggerated at the time as fans who were eager to see this potential legend back in action, but would have to wait a full year between runs instead. The gelding won nicely ahead of Lossiemouth in his first run of the season at Kempton on Boxing Day 2024.The now eight-year-old had always looked destined for legendary status going unbeaten until a rare mistake at Cheltenham Festival this year saw him fall, losing his first ever race under rules. Then he made another mistake to fall again a month later at Aintree in the Grand National meeting, before finishing a tame fifth of six at Punchestown in May.Constitution Hill finishes at Aintree without jockey De Boinville at Aintree’s Grand National meetingTom Jenkins/Getty ImagesHenderson explained earlier: “Poor boy, when it came to the end of last season and we went to Punchestown, I mean it was totally my fault. “He had two terrible falls and it was unfair to ask him to go out and do it again. And he quite rightly said I can’t, I just can’t face this again.”Racing fans and especially the Seven Barrows yard will be elated to see Constitution Hill back to his best as they hope to see in the Grade 1 Fighting Fifth Hurdle at 2pm on November 29th.The Dan Skelton-trained The New Lion is the favourite and Constitution Hill is a rare second-fav for the very first time.talkSPORT BET Boosted Favourites30 minutes before the start of every UK & IRE race, we are boosting either the favourite or 2nd fav to win!Get the latest price boosts here18+.
