(File Photo)Mumbai Police on Sunday registered an FIR against Anant Garje, the personal assistant of Environment Minister Pankaja Munde, on charges of abetment of suicide after his wife allegedly killed herself at their Worli home on Saturday evening. It was registered based on a statement given by the father of the deceased woman, Dr Gauri Palve, 28.According to the FIR, Dr Palve, who was a dentist, was allegedly subjected to mental harassment after their marriage in February in Beed. Her father Ashok Palve further alleged in his police complaint that on October 3, his daughter sent him on WhatsApp several photographs that indicated that her husband had a close relationship with another woman. She told her parents that when she confronted her husband, he told her she could do whatever she wanted and that he could kill himself blaming her.Dr Palve had alleged that even her brother-in-law and his wife knew about this relationship, but threatened her that if she wanted to leave Garje, they would get him married again.Dr Palve’s parents said that when they recently visited the Worli house, they saw some injury marks on her body that she refused to explain. Her father further alleged that on Friday, Dr Palve had called him up twice, but he could not answer the calls because he was in the bathroom. When he called her back, she told him everything was fine.On Saturday evening, the father said, they received a call from Garje informing them that their daughter had died by suicide, following which the family rushed to the city. She was declared dead at Nair Hospital.The police have registered the case on charges such as abetment of suicide and husband or relatives subjecting a wife to cruelty, among others.Dr Palve’s family has also asked the police to investigate if she had been murdered.
