Malta has officially cemented its place on the global MedTech map after hosting MedTech Malta 2025, a three-day international conference that brought more than 2,000 delegates to the Mediterranean Conference Centre in Valletta between 12th and 14th November.Healthcare innovators, investors, startups, researchers, and policy-makers from around the world gathered to explore the future of digital health, AI, biotech, robotics, and patient-centred medical technology.Government Leaders Highlight Malta’s Growing MedTech VisionPrime Minister Robert Abela opened the event, reaffirming Malta’s ambition to become a European leader in MedTech under Malta Vision 2050, saying collaboration between government, academia, and industry is central to the country’s long-term strategy.Minister for the Economy Silvio Schembri, Minister for Health & Active Ageing Dr Jo Etienne Abela, Parliamentary Secretary Dr Malcolm Paul Agius Galea, Parliamentary Secretary Dr Keith Azzopardi Tanti, and Leader of the Opposition Dr Alex Borg also took part, showing rare bipartisan support for Malta’s MedTech push.Breakthroughs and Major AnnouncementsOne of the biggest milestones came with the announcement that the Cancer Research and Innovation Hub Malta (CRIHM) has officially been recognised as a European Cancer Mission Hub, opening new doors for EU-level research and collaboration.In the MedTech World Startup Pitch Competition, Galenband, led by CEO Eddie McDaid, took first place with its innovative continuous 90-day ECG band – a wire-free, surgery-free solution for monitoring intermittent atrial fibrillation.Global Collaboration at the Heart of the EventIndustry giants including Johnson & Johnson, NVIDIA, and Cleveland Clinic joined local startups and investors for 50+ panels and keynotes covering AI diagnostics, robotics, digital therapeutics, patient-centred care, and future regulatory trends.Exclusive forums brought investors and CEOs together for discussions on market entry and funding opportunities, while CPD-accredited workshops provided hands-on training for clinicians.Showcasing Malta’s Culture and InnovationDelegates also explored Valletta and Mdina through guided tours and visited DiHubMT × Digital Innovation Hub to experience Malta’s digital ecosystem first-hand.The conference closed with an Awards Night celebrating excellence in healthcare, followed by a charity auction supporting the SiGMA Foundation.What’s Next?MedTech World CEO Dr Dylan Attard announced that MedTech’s global footprint will expand to four international locations in 2026, beginning with MedTech World Dubai in February.“MedTech Malta 2025 has shown that Malta is not only a hub for innovation, but a place where ideas, investment and collaboration come together to shape the future of healthcare,” he said.•
