Heritage Foundation faces ongoing backlash to its president’s support for Tucker Carlson, with Catholic philosopher and top conservative jurist Robert P. George announcing his resignation from board of trustees.By World Israel News StaffA Heritage Foundation trustee, one of the country’s most prominent conservative philosophers and jurists, has resigned from the public policy think tank over the organization’s defense of far-right pundit Tucker Carlson. On Monday, Robert P. George, the McCormick Professor of Jurisprudence and director of the James Madison Program in American Ideals and Institutions at Princeton University, announced that he has stepped down from the Heritage Foundation’s board of trustees. In a Facebook post, George praised Heritage President Kevin Roberts as a “good man,” while criticizing Roberts’ refusal to distance himself and the foundation from Carlson, following the rightist podcaster’s interview with white supremacist and Hitler apologist Nick Fuentes.“I have resigned from the board of the Heritage Foundation,” George wrote. “I could not remain without a full retraction of the video released by Kevin Roberts, speaking for and in the name of Heritage, on October 30th.”“Although Kevin publicly apologized for some of what he said in the video, he could not offer a full retraction of its content. So, we reached an impasse.”Shortly afterwards, the Heritage Foundation responded to George’s resignation, lauding his work and thanking him for his nearly seven years on the board of trustees.“We are thankful for Professor George and his service to Heritage. He is a good man, and we look forward to opportunities to work together in the future.”The foundation reiterated its support for its embattled president, who has faced growing calls for his resignation.“Under the leadership of Dr. Roberts, Heritage remains resolute in building an America where freedom, opportunity, prosperity, and civil society flourish. We are strong, growing, and more determined than ever to fight for our republic.”George’s resignation follows the departure of a number of high-profile members from Heritage, with several organizations cutting ties with the think tank.Earlier this month, Republican economist and former Trump adviser Stephen Moore announced he was leaving Heritage.Laurie Cardoza-Moore, an Evangelical leader, quit the Heritage Foundation’s antisemitism taskforce, while several Jewish groups cut ties with the taskforce. On October 27th, Carlson interviewed Fuentes in an episode of Carlson’s podcast which critics say appeared to embrace Fuentes’ views, with little push-back from the former Fox News host on comments by the avowed white supremacist Fuentes. After Heritage donors pressed Roberts to disavow Carlson, he released a video statement defending the foundation’s ties to the controversial podcaster, while excoriating the “venomous coalition” critical of Carlson.Roberts later clarified his comments, but has refused to explicitly denounce Carlson. The post Top conservative quits Heritage over think tank’s ties to Tucker Carlson appeared first on World Israel News.
