A home for people with mental illnesses was inaugurated on the Emerald Government Hospital premises by Nilgiris M.P. A. Raja and Coonoor MLA and Chief government whip, K. Ramachandran here on Wednesday (November 19, 2025).The Nilgiris district administration stated that the home for people with mental illness was being inaugurated for the first time in the district, with the assistance of Helping Hearts, a Non-Governmental Organisation.The district administration stated that the 20-bed facility will house both men and women living with mental illness. They added that professionals will give counselling and therapy, and livelihood training to the patients. Recreational facilities are available at the home. Patients will also be given medication and treatment during their stay.The Nilgiris District Collector Lakshmi Bhavya Tanneeru and the Nilgiris district Superintendent of police, N. S.
