Tizen 9.0 Samsung TV update causes YouTube issues, here’s a workaround

Wait 5 sec.

Samsung appears to be rolling out the Tizen 9 update to more TV models, at least those released in 2024. We're still unsure if Tizen 9.0 is out for 2023 TVs despite Samsung's promise a few weeks ago. None of our 2023 TVs received it.Nevertheless, at least a couple of Samsung Community members from Europe say that Tizen 9.0 barely reached their TVs roughly two weeks ago, and one user believes they own a 2023 model. However, the update didn't come without issues and seemingly killed the YouTube app. Fortunately, there is a solution. One Tizen 9.0 user who seemingly got in touch with a Samsung support representative found out that the company is investigating the matter as we speak.Samsung attributed this YouTube issue to specific internet providers and router combinations rather than Tizen 9.0 itself — although it does seem that Tizen 9.0 triggered the issue somehow. What's the solution if YouTube isn't working on your Samsung TV?According to these recent posts on the Community forums, you can get the YouTube app working again on your Tizen 9.0 Samsung TV by reconfiguring your router to use IPv4 instead of IPv6.If you're unsure which version you're using and don't want to access your router's settings, you can look for an IP detection website online — from a device that is connected to the internet through your router. If you're using IPv6 and don't want to mess with your router's settings, you may want to skip the Tizen 9.0 update for the time being, assuming Samsung hasn't already pulled it off the air.To be safe, you can turn off automatic updates on your Samsung TV by accessing Settings > Support > Software update > Auto update OFF.The company claims to be investigating the matter further, which means that, even though Tizen 9.0 itself doesn't break the YouTube app directly, it can somehow cause issues for YouTube users who have their routers set to IPv6.This could explain why the rollout hasn't happened in full force when Samsung said it would. Or it might be a coincidence. Either way, it looks like the Tizen 9.0 rollout on 2023 TVs might be going slower than we hoped. We'll keep you posted as soon as we find out more.
