More information has come to light after a boat sank at Walt Disney World Resort on Halloween, trapping several guests on board. A new Disney Park guest report suggests that the Living with the Land ride vehicle was “loaded unevenly,” causing it to take on water soon after going over a slight bump in the underwater track.Disney Parks fans first learned of the incident on November 1, with a TikTok video from @michellewalksdisney. The social media user and their family were on the boat behind the sinking Living with the Land ride vehicle. They said that all the vessels were evacuated after the affected boat began taking on water. @michellewalksdisney Current situation. Boat in front of me started to sink and all occupants had to evacuate. We ended up chilling in our boat until cast members escorted us off and out the back. And people say living with the land is boring!! #epcot #livingwiththeland #wdw #fyp #sinkingship ♬ original sound – days_gone_disney “Boat in front of me started to sink and all occupants had to evacuate,” the Disney Park guest wrote in the video’s caption. “We ended up chilling in our boat until cast members escorted us off and out the back. TikTok user @finleyfamily shared a video of water rushing into the EPCOT attraction vehicle after all riders had safely been evacuated to shore: @finleyfamily We were on the ride Living with the Land at Epcot yesterday and it felt like we hit a pot hole but we know it’s on a track in the water. So as we kept going the water up front kept coming in apparently a lot. We were in the back but they loaded the boat heavily upfront we had two rows of empty seats behind us. One of the people in the front was a man who was probably 6.5” we all think it was loaded unevenly. But back to what happened. The people in the second row had about 4 inches of water they were moving there stuff around and it altered us and we could see that the front was so far down/listing…we knew something was wrong so we tried to move to the back of the boat to counter balance it. That didn’t work things started to shift and the boat, because it’s still being moved by the track, started to tilt pretty abruptly and we all felt scared and jumped off of it. Nobody was hurt just scared and wet thank goodness! @MichelleWalksDisney ♬ My Heart Will Go On – yourmusic4ever In the video’s caption, the Disney Park guest explained that they worried from the start that the boat was unevenly loaded. Even though Living with the Land operates on an underwater track, the guests “knew there was something wrong” after they hit what felt like a pothole and heard the water coming into the front of the boat.“It felt like we hit a pot hole but we know it’s on a track in the water,” the EPCOT guest wrote. “So as we kept going the water up front kept coming in apparently a lot. The guests worked together to try to balance the vessel backward as the front tipped deeper into the ride’s water. Unfortunately, their efforts failed, and they decided to jump off the boat and onto the “stage” area next to the ride track:“The people in the second row had about 4 inches of water they were moving there stuff around and it [alerted] us and we could see that the front was so far down/listing…we knew something was wrong so we tried to move to the back of the boat to counter balance it. That didn’t work things started to shift and the boat, because it’s still being moved by the track, started to tilt pretty abruptly and we all felt scared and jumped off of it.”Credit: DisneyThanks to the guests’ quick thinking, no one was injured.“Nobody was hurt just scared and wet,” they concluded. “Thank goodness!”Walt Disney World Resort has not commented publicly on this incident. Living with the Land has since reopened and was operating normally at the time of this article’s publication.Has a ride ever malfunctioned during your Walt Disney World Resort or Disneyland Resort vacation?
