Thomas Tuchel has issued a stern message to Jude Bellingham after his disgruntled reaction to being substituted. Bellingham was taken off in the final stages of England’s 2-0 win over Albania in their final World Cup 2026 qualifier on Sunday in a moment which raised eyebrows. The Three Lions completed the perfect qualification campaign, winning all eight of their games without conceding a goal. It was a great night for Tuchel’s side, but Bellingham’s evening was cut slightly short when he was replaced by Morgan Rogers on 84 minutes, soon after picking up a yellow card for a poor challenge. And as Bellingham walked off, his thoughts on the decision were clear to see as he threw his arms out at the decision. The 22-year-old wasn’t happy and as he walked past manager Tuchel there was sure to be tension in the air. The German was then asked post-match to give his opinion on the Real Madrid superstar’s attitude at his substitution.“That’s the decision, and he has to accept the decision,” Tuchel said.“His friend is waiting on the sideline, so you need to accept it, respect it, and keep on going.”Tuchel was then pressed on the matter, being asked whether Bellingham’s reaction goes against his stance on poor behaviour. He replied: “I didn’t see it that way, I’m going to have to review it.“I saw that he was not happy. I don’t want to make it bigger at the moment than it is.Bellingham was left raging at being substituted for RogersGettyThere have been a couple of hairy moments between Bellingham and TuchelGetty“I think to a certain degree, if you have players like Jude, who are so competitive, they will never like it, but, as you said, my word stands.“It is about standards and level, and it’s a commitment to respect each other. So someone is waiting outside, and we will not change our decision just because someone is waving their arms.”What has Tuchel previously said on Bellingham’s behaviour?Tuchel’s ‘word’ likely relates to his old comments on Bellingham’s behaviour that he doesn’t want to see with England. The Three Lions boss previously labelled the midfielder’s angry antics against Senegal in June as ‘repulsive’.Bellingham kicked the ball into the air and booted a water bottle before chasing the assistant referee after his goal was ruled out. After that, Tuchel told talkSPORT: “It needs to be channelled.Tuchel has previously discussed Bellingham’s angry reaction on the pitchAFP“The edge needs to be channelled towards the opponent, towards our goal and not to intimidate teammates or to be over-aggressive towards teammates or referees, but towards opponents.”He added: “You see sometimes the explosion towards referees and the anger in his game. “So if he can channel this in the right way and we can help him in this, then for sure he has something that we need, and he has a certain edge that is hard to find.”“If he smiles, he wins everyone, but sometimes you see the rage, you see the hunger and the rage and the fire and it comes out in a way that can be a bit repulsive for example, for my mother, when she sits in front of the TV,” Tuchel then admitted. In August, Tuchel apologised for the comments on Bellingham’s behaviour, taking responsibility for using ‘the wrong word’.Bellingham has been called out by Tuchel for his behaviour twice in his tenureGettyTuchel’s authoritative approachTuchel clearly sets high standards in the England camp and he continues to stamp his authority on his players. But talkSPORT’s chief football correspondent Alex Crook insisted in October, after Bellingham was left out of the England squad, that there is still no doubt that he starts at the World Cup.Crook also stated: “I do think this is a manager laying down his authority. I think one of the concerns he had when he came in was that maybe the team spirit at the Euros last summer wasn’t as strong as it had been previously… and we hear stories about Jude Bellingham and particularly his refusal to take part in media interviews, despite the fact he was part of the leadership squad.“So this [dropping him] is, in my opinion, Tuchel just laying down the law to Bellingham. He wants him to toe the line.“I think maybe he suspected he was getting too big for his boots. “Tuchel admitted there that he wanted to be part of the squad. He isn’t. That would have dented his ego and hurt his pride.”
