Yadav is a 2023-batch officer from Rae Bareli and was posted in Mahoba. He was produced before a court and sent to judicial custody, police added.On the morning of November 13, police found the body of the woman on the roadside at Ramna Kishanpur village under Maudaha police station. With no immediate identity, officers circulated the woman’s photograph on social media. Family members later identified her as Kiran of the Kabrai area in Mahoba.During the investigation, police reviewed CCTV footage after witnesses reported seeing a red car in the area the night before. The vehicle’s registration led them to its owner, Devendra Kumar, in Mahoba, who told police that Sub-Inspector Ankit Yadav had borrowed the car on November 12, saying he needed it to attend a function.Yadav was detained. According to police, he told them that while posted at Kabrai police station earlier, he was investigating a dowry harassment case filed by Kiran against her husband and in-laws.Kiran and the sub-inspector allegedly stayed in regular touch and developed a close relationship, police said. According to the Sub-Inspector, she began pressing him to marry her and threatened to implicate him in a case if he refused to do so.Police alleged that on November 12, Kiran called Yadav and asked him to pick her up. While travelling towards Hamirpur, the two had an argument.Story continues below this adYadav told investigators that he had stopped the car at Kiran’s request. He then allegedly struck her from behind on the head with an iron rod and tried to strangle her, leaving her unconscious by the roadside, the police said. Her body was found the next morning.Forensic teams examined the scene and the vehicle, and the post-mortem report is awaited, police said.
