The Muppets Return to Disney’s Hollywood Studios Following Vision 3D Closure, but With a Big Twist

Wait 5 sec.

It’s almost strange how The Muppet Christmas Carol has become a December ritual without ever earning a meaningful home in Disney Parks. The movie is one of the Muppets’ most consistent crowd-pleasers — revisited, re-released, sung along to — yet it has spent decades sitting on the sidelines while other seasonal films have cycled through displays and décor.Credit: DisneyMeanwhile, the parks themselves have been shifting. When Muppet*Vision 3D closed earlier this year to clear space for the upcoming Monsters, Inc. land, the Muppets abruptly vanished from Disney’s Hollywood Studios.Fortunately, their return is already scheduled: next year’s major re-theme of Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster will hand the spotlight to the Electric Mayhem, along with other Muppet characters, erasing the long-standing Aerosmith branding. But until that attraction opens, the only current Muppet footprint in the park comes from a place nobody expected.Credit: DisneyRelated: ‘The Muppet Christmas Carol’ Gets a Modern Twist in Official New Remake TeaserWalt Disney Presents — usually a mix of film history, previews, and displays — has opened a holiday exhibit called “Disney Takes a Holiday.” And in the middle of it, The Muppet Christmas Carol has finally been given its time in the sun. The entry signage uses artwork of Bob Cratchit (Kermit) and Tiny Tim (Robin), making the cherished 1992 film the visual centerpiece of the entire exhibit.Other titles appear as well, including The Santa Clause, Noelle, and Babes in Toyland. With the Electric Mayhem taking over a major ride next year, speculation of what that means in the long term is inevitable, and a seasonal Muppet Christmas Carol overlay on the new ride isn’t such a far-fetched idea. But for now, this newly unveiled holiday exhibit that celebrates the iconic 1992 classic is the first meaningful step in that direction.Would you like to see The Muppet Christmas Carol have a bigger presence at Disney Parks?
