Sivankutty lauds teachers for humanitarian role

General Education Minister V. Sivankutty praised the teachers who ensured the safety of a Class 6 student and his mother after they were forced out of their house following a dispute at Thirumarady, near Koothattukulam, in Ernakulam.In a Facebook post, the Minister said that the incident came to light during a routine counselling session at the school, where teachers noticed signs of distress in the student. Upon further inquiry, they discovered that the child and his mother had been living in a shed in a forested area after being forced to leave their home.The school’s headmaster and teachers intervened to ensure the safety of the mother and child. With their coordinated efforts, the family was able to return safely to their home.Mr. Sivankutty lauded the incident as a powerful example of the commitment of Kerala’s public education system, not only to academic instruction, but also to the well-being and protection of students.He also commended the effective coordination between the school authorities, the police and Childline, who will continue to monitor the child’s situation to ensure long-term safety and support.Published - November 16, 2025 10:29 pm IST
