Chelsea have been a dominant force in the Women's Super League recently, and they have written their name into the history books once more.Though Sonia Bompastor's side were disappointed to draw 1-1 with Liverpool on Sunday, that result did ensure they have achieved the longest unbeaten streak in WSL history, going 34 games without defeat. That run began back in May 2024, when Emma Hayes was still in charge. Bompastor then took the reins after Hayes pipped Manchester City to the title in 2023-24, and another crown followed in 2024-25, without a single defeat. After also going nine games unbeaten to start this season, the Blues have surpassed their own record of 33 games unbeaten, set between February 2019 and January 2021.That was not the only landmark hit this weekend, though, with Millie Bright also becoming the all-time appearance maker in the WSL.Here, using Opta data, we break down the six-time WSL champions' unprecedented streak.Chelsea go from strength to strengthLast time Chelsea set the longest unbeaten streak in WSL history, they overtook Manchester City, who enjoyed a 31-game run between May 2015 and May 2017.Now, they have one-upped their own record. The Blues' previous run saw them win 26 games and draw seven to go unbeaten in 33 matches, whereas this time around, they have been stronger, registering 28 wins and six draws since May 5, 2024.Their run started following a 4-3 defeat to Liverpool, after which Hayes led Chelsea through three wins, scoring 15 goals and conceding none to pip City to the title.Bompastor took over from there, and though Chelsea have scored fewer goals than their 2019-21 run (87 to 109), they have been stronger defensively, conceding four fewer goals (18 to 22).In fact, Chelsea have kept 20 clean sheets during their current unbeaten run. That is four more shutouts than any other team has managed in the competition in the same time (Manchester United are second with 16).And the Blues have taken 90 points in the WSL since the start of their unbeaten run, at an average of 2.65 per game.Bompastor's seamless translationLast term, Bompastor became just the second manager in WSL history to win the title in their first season in charge, after Arsenal's Laura Harvey, who did so in the inaugural 2011 campaign.Chelsea finished last season with 60 points (W19 D3 L0), 12 more than second-placed Arsenal, as they won the title with two games to spare.Of course, she has also had the longest unbeaten start as a WSL manager. The former Lyon boss is yet to taste defeat in the WSL, going undefeated in 31 matches (W25 D6).Her 80.6% win ratio is the highest of any WSL manager to oversee more than eight games, while she averages 2.6 points per game.As touched on before, her team have also enjoyed a strong defensive base, conceding just 18 goals, fewer than any other WSL team since she took charge, even when including teams that have not been ever-presents in the top flight (London City Lionesses have conceded 19).At the other end, they have scored 72 goals, with only Arsenal (80) netting more.Bright in the spotlightWhile Chelsea were unable to get the three points on Merseyside, they left with two WSL records broken, with Bright making her 211th WSL appearance.Having levelled Jordan Nobbs' record of 210 in the 1-1 draw with Arsenal last week, Bright, who had already made the most starts in WSL history (199), now leads the way.She has played a role in 91 clean sheets – 24 more than the next-highest in the competition's history (69 – Stephanie Houghton).During Chelsea's unbeaten streak, Bright leads the way for minutes played (2,858) and has made 33 starts, more than any of her team-mates.In fact, the only other Blues players to feature in as many games during their run are Johanna Rytting Kaneryd and Aggie Beever-Jones, who is Chelsea's top-scorer throughout their streak with 15 goals.
