If you’ve applied for a passport and have not received it or if it’s stuck at some stage of approval, here’s what you can do to ensure faster and safe delivery of your passport.You can enquire online by visiting http://www.Passportindia.gov.in and checking the status of your application.Click on “Track Application Status”. Select type of passport, key in your application number and other details and select “Track Status”. You can track your passport application status at https://www.passportindia.gov.in/If it says, “Under Review”, you may rest assured that it is still undergoing verification. You may enquire at the passport office or Passport Seva Kendra if the application is still “Under Review” after 30 days of application submission.However, it it says “Application Rejected”, you will have to contact the Passport Seva Kendra to enquire the reason for the same.Passport helpline numberYou may also call the passport helpline number at 1800-258-1800 to check the status of your application. You can talk to the Call Centre executive or punch your file no. into the IVR system to check your application status.Best way to check the status is by visiting the helpdesk at your nearest Passport Seva Kendra.Story continues below this adNote: Before calling Passport Call Centre to check your application status, remember to provide your File Number and Date of Birth to the call centre executive.However, in case of losing the passport, you cannot file a complaint through Call Centre. Loss of Passport should be immediately reported to the nearest Police Station and to the Passport Office or Indian Mission, if abroad.Police VerificationOne reason why your passport may not have reached you could be that it is stuck at the police verification stage.Passport is an extremely important and valuable document. In most cases, pre-police verification would be required. An exception is made in cases pertaining to Government servants who are required to submit ‘Identity Certificate’ as per Annexure ‘A’ or ‘No Objection Certificate’ as per Annexure ‘G’ and in processing of Tatkaal application.Re-verificationIf your police report after verification shows “adverse”, please contact Passport Office (PO) to understand the reason of adverse report. Post clarification, if required a re-verification can be requested. You will be contacted to resolve the discrepancies. If not, you may visit the office and enquire.The discrepancies may include a mismatch of documents, frequent change of addresses, clarification on identification, etc. You may be required to submit more documents in such cases.A backlog of applications at a particular passport office may also cause delay.
