President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Monday delivered a deeply reflective and development-focused address in Namutumba District, using his visit to honour Busoga’s contribution to the Liberation struggle while reaffirming the National Resistance Movement’s commitment to improving infrastructure in the region.Accompanied by First Lady Janet Kataaha Museveni, the President said his return to Busoga was both political and symbolic, describing the sub-region as a historic pillar of support during the 1981–1986 war that ushered the NRM government into power.Honouring the FallenMuseveni told residents that his presence in Namutumba represented the memory and sacrifices of the men and women from Busoga who risked and, in many cases, lost their lives supporting the liberation effort.“I reminded the people that Busoga is one of the areas where we fought,” the President said. “I was representing our comrades who died in that struggle. Busoga cadres stood with us for long, including Nkooko and Ntale who were executed in Jinja for supporting us.”He said the loyalty of Busoga’s fighters and mobilisers contributed significantly to the establishment of peace after the NRA victory—peace he described as the foundational “first brick” in building modern Uganda.“NRM is synonymous with peace,” Museveni added, noting that stability remains the bedrock of the government’s long-term development agenda.Infrastructure as an Engine for DevelopmentHighlighting the “second brick”—development—the President cited improvements in the region’s road network as examples of how peace had enabled national transformation. He pointed to the Nakalama–Busembatya–Tirinyi–Mbale road as a major project that has eased movement between eastern districts.“Today you don’t have to pass through Tororo to reach Mbale,” he said. “We built that road. You go to Tororo only if you are going to Kenya.”Museveni noted that improved connectivity reduces transport costs, facilitates trade, and strengthens regional markets, directly benefiting households and businesses.Road Projects Approved for the Next Financial YearThe President used the Namutumba rally to announce additional road infrastructure projects earmarked for the 2026/2027 financial year. These include:Nabumali–Namutumba RoadBusembatya–Namakoko RoadKaliro–Namutumba–Mazuba RoadHe said these roads will further integrate Namutumba with neighbouring districts, improve access to social services, and accelerate agricultural commercialization—one of the government’s core priorities.Museveni also directed his Principal Secretary to coordinate with Namutumba District leadership to ensure that all pending presidential pledges are followed up and resolved.Continuing the Busoga Mobilisation DriveThe Namutumba visit is part of the President’s wider mobilisation tour across Busoga sub-region, during which he has revisited the NRM’s historical ties, articulated government achievements, and outlined new commitments ahead of the 2026 General Election.Museveni announced that he will on Tuesday take the NRM message to Buyende and Kaliro districts, continuing what State House has described as a “people-centred engagement” focusing on peace, development, and political stability.Busoga’s Strategic RolePolitical analysts note that the President’s emphasis on Busoga’s wartime contribution and its infrastructural needs reflects the region’s strategic political importance. Although historically an NRM stronghold, Busoga’s voting patterns have fluctuated in recent elections, prompting renewed focus on tangible service delivery and direct community engagement.During Monday’s address, Museveni appealed for continued unity and support, arguing that sustained peace and expanded infrastructure remain key to lifting households out of poverty.“As we built the first brick of peace, we continue laying the second brick of development,” he said. “With these two, Uganda will continue to move forward.”The President is expected to conclude his Busoga engagements later this week before shifting attention to other regions as part of his broader nationwide mobilisation programme. The post Museveni Pays Tribute To Busoga’s Wartime Sacrifice, Announces New Road Projects During Namutumba Visit appeared first on The Insider.
