Three courts, two schools get hoax bomb threat

(Express photo by Amit Mehra)Over a week after the blast near the Red Fort, at least three district courts in Delhi — Saket, Rohini and Patiala House — along with two CRPF-run schools, received bomb threats on Tuesday morning, causing panic.The threat email, sent in the name of Jaish-e-Mohammed — claiming that explosives had been planted on court premises and the schools — later turned out to be a hoax, police said. The email was addressed to the Press Information Bureau and the Delhi Police.According to the Delhi Fire Services, the two CRPF schools in Prashant Vihar and Dwarka received the threat emails around 9 am. Similar emails were received at Patiala House, Saket and Rohini district courts.Several teams of bomb disposal squad, dog squad, and officers from the local police station were deployed to sweep the district court complexes.Soon after the threats were received, the New Delhi Bar Association released a circular saying that security agencies have been deployed at the Patiala House Court.“Members are requested not to panic on account of the recent bomb threat and are kindly advised to cooperate with the security staff… if any unidentified object is found, please inform the nearest security personnel,” wrote New Delhi Bar Association secretary Tarun Rana.Minutes later, Saket Bar Association secretary Anil Basoya issued a similar circular saying, “Court work is suspended for the next two hours due to a security issue. Proceedings will resume after lunch, once cleared. Stay calm, cooperate and avoid crowding.”Story continues below this adVideos from the court complexes showed people pouring out of the buildings and assembling outside, as security personnel checked the premises for any suspicious items.Around noon, the police confirmed that the threat was a hoax. Speaking to mediapersons, Rana said, “As per my information, bomb threat emails were sent to district court complexes in Delhi. The threats turned out to be a hoax.
