BJP expels Yuva Morcha office bearer arrested for alleged assault of woman

The Bharatiya Janata Party has expelled Yuva Morcha Ernakulam district general secretary Gopu Paramasivan, 32, from the primary membership of the party after he was arrested by Kochi city police on charges of assaulting a woman who had allegedly lived with him at one time on Friday.He was arrested on a case registered on a complaint lodged by a 36-year-old woman from Vaduthala. According to the First Information Report, Gopu had been living with the woman from May 15, 2021, at a rented house in Vyttila. He allegedly became upset when she went to live with her husband and children at their rented house in Vaduthala, and is accused of assaulting her since her return.On November 20, he allegedly assaulted the woman brutally, accusing her of dirtying his helmet. She has also accused him of attempting to kill her. He has been booked under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Sections 109(1) (attempted murder), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 118(1) (voluntarily causing hurt using dangerous weapons or means), and 74 (criminal force used to outrage a woman’s modesty).Police said Gopu had earlier filed a complaint alleging that the woman was missing.
