Kevin Doyle appeared to take aim at Liverpool while celebrating the Republic of Ireland’s last-gasp winner.Troy Parrott completed a hat-trick in stoppage time against Hungary to win 3-2 and book his country a 2026 World Cup play-off spot.Parrott became an Ireland hero with his late winner over HungaryAFPIreland have the opportunity to qualify for their first World Cup since 2002 thanks to their comeback victory.Ex-Premier League striker Doyle, who earned 62 caps and scored 14 goals for the Boys in Green, was on punditry duty for RTE Sport during the match.Footage on social media shows him celebrating Parrott’s winning goal by running around the studio.Hungary and Liverpool star Szoboszlai then appeared dejected on the television feed having lost out on the play-offs – with Reds full-back Milos Kerkez also on the losing side.Doyle then seemingly shouted towards the screen: “Suck on that you Liverpool c***!”He did so with former Reds midfielder Didi Hamann stood nearby and then said: “Sorry Didi.”Ireland eye World Cup dreamWith no wins in their opening three Group F qualifiers, Ireland looked as though they were set to miss out on the World Cup once again.An opening draw with Hungary was followed by defeats to Armenia and Portugal to almost put a top-two finish out of sight.Ireland then won the reverse fixtures against the latter two nations, with Cristiano Ronaldo being sent off for Portugal last Thursday.Hungary occupied the play-off spot heading into Sunday’s match to put them in control of crunch clash.Doyle couldn’t contain his emotions during the celebrationsDaniel Lukacs put them ahead with only three minutes on the clock before Parrott equalised with a penalty.Hungary restored their lead through Barnabas Varga and spent much of the second half in the driving seat.Parrott netted his second of the night on 80 minutes as Ireland piled on the pressure in Budapest.And their efforts were rewarded in the sixth minute of stoppage time when Parrott netted with almost the last kick of the match.Ireland players and staff delivered jubilant celebrations on the pitch as they avoided elimination at the expense of Hungary.They will fight for World Cup qualification in March during the play-offs to become one of the 48 nations at next summer’s tournament.
