Celebrated producer and talent manager Bushingtone, real name George Kagoda, claims Uganda cannot have a specific sound, and such talk should be ignored. For many years, the music industry has struggled to outcompete other industries in Western and Southern Africa, and critics have blamed it on Uganda’s lack of identity and original sound.Bushingtone, however, believes that it is merely cheap talk made without enough research because Ugandans cannot have one particular signature sound.Ava Peace ready for her first headlining concertIn an interview with NBS TV, Bushingtone stated that the diverse cultures, tribes, and ethnic backgrounds in Uganda cannot allow to settle for one sound, and that it is the case with other industries across the world. We cannot have a signature sound. You cannot expect a reggae artist to sing Kadongokamu and vice versa. Even Americans have diverse sounds; those in Nashville are more into Country Music, New Yorkers love Hip-Hop and R&B, and California has Latino music… so why should all Ugandans have one specific sound? We have different ethnic backgrounds. How a Munyankore understands music isn’t the same way a Northerner will, because of their language and backgrounds. Even Nigerians don’t have such an identity, their music has evolved over the years because of demand. Their music is strongly influenced by Ghanaian sounds. They are smart enough to jump on any trending sound, like Amapiano. The post Uganda’s diverse culture defies claims of missing music identity – Bushingtone appeared first on MBU.
