The New York Giants are going big-game hunting for their next head coach.According to NFL insider Jay Glazer, the Giants have a couple of Kansas City Chiefs assistants on their list. Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy and defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo will be on the Giants’ wish list, along with Mike McCarthy.New York fired Brian Daboll earlier this week after once again having their season all but over by Thanksgiving for the third consecutive year. Mike Kafka was named the interim head coach. As for what the future holds, it remains to be seen, but tapping into the Kansas City coaching tree is never a bad idea.Spagnuolo is of course no stranger to the Big Apple. He previously served as the Giants’ defensive coordinator from 2007 to 2008, helping lead a defense that upset Tom Brady‘s perfect Patriots in Super Bowl XLII with a dominant defensive performance. After three failed seasons as head coach in St. Louis from 2009-2011, going 10-38 overall, Spagnuolo returned to the Giants in 2015 and served as their defensive coordinator again.Nagy meanwhile was as the head coach of the Chicago Bears from 2018 to 2021. He led the team to a 36-28 record, including a 12-4 season and a playoff appearance in 2018, earning NFL Coach of the Year honors. However, it all went downhill from there and he was dismissed after the 2021 season. He then returned to Kansas City and has been Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes‘ offensive coordinator for two Super Bowl winning teams. If the Giants want a coach with Super Bowl-winning experience as a head coach, rather than just coordinator experience like Nagy and Spagnuolo, they may be calling Mike McCarthy. He was head coach of the Green Bay Packers from 2006 to 2018, leading the team to the Super Bowl in 2010 with Aaron Rodgers.McCarthy and Rodgers were a very successful head coach-quarterback duoGettyNagy may be better this time around, bringing more experience with himGettyHe went 125-77-2 during his 13 seasons in Green Bay, took a year off in 2019, and returned to coaching in 2020 with the Dallas Cowboys before being let go by Jerry Jones at the end of last season.Glazer also reported that the Giants will look at Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, Rams defensive coordinator Chris Shula, and Colts defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo.Bill Belichick‘s name was floated around in recent weeks, given his own extensive history with the storied franchise. However, he released a statement saying he was not interested in that coaching vacancy or any future NFL head-coaching openings.“It was a privilege for me to work for the Mara family and be a member of Coach Parcells’ staff for over a decade,” Belichick said.“However, despite circulating rumors, I have not and will not pursue any NFL head coaching vacancies. Since arriving in Chapel Hill, my commitment to the UNC Football program has not wavered.Belchick’s time in North Carolina has not gone according to planGettyNFL's Greatest......Ranking the top 10......Quarterbacks of all-time – Can anyone better Tom Brady?Wide receivers of all-time – Does Randy Moss or Jerry Rice come out on top?Running backs of all-time – Stacking Jim Brown, Barry Sanders, Walter Payton, Emmitt Smith and moreTight ends of all-time – How does Travis Kelce compare?“We have tremendous support from the university, our alumni, and the entire Carolina community. My focus remains solely on continuing to improve this team, develop our players, and build a program that makes Tar Heel fans proud. We’re on to Wake Forest.”Belichick’s first season at North Carolina has been a very underwhelming disappointment. The Tar Heels are 4-6 and just 2-4 in ACC play.Whether the six-time Super Bowl–winning head coach is true to his word remains to be seen, but if there’s any NFL franchise capable of pulling him back into the league, it’s the Giants. For the G-Men and their fans, they’d gladly take anyone who can lift them out of the basement and restore the franchise’s glory.Whether it’s Nagy, Spagnuolo, McCarthy, or even Belichick, whoever takes the job will have a difficult task ahead.Stay up to date with the latest from the NFL across all platforms – follow our dedicated talkSPORT USA Facebook page and subscribe to our talkSPORT USA YouTube channel for all the news, exclusives, interviews and more
