The plot had scrap cardboard and cartons stored under tin sheds. Police officers rushed to the spot. Six fire tenders and over 50 firefighters were also pressed into service.Five people, who had sustained burn injuries, were sent to Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial Hospital in Jahangirpuri, police said. Two of them, identified as Biresh and Satish, were declared dead by doctors. The other three are currently undergoing treatment, said police.Preliminary inquiry revealed that all five, originally from Bihar’s Nalanda, had been living in tin sheds erected on the plot, police said. They collected scrap cardboards and cartons from nearby markets.One of the injured workers, Dinesh, told police he had tried to rescue Biresh and Satish but was forced out as the fire intensified, officers said.Police said there were four tin sheds on the plot, two of which were completely gutted. The presence of a large quantity of highly inflammable scrap material caused the fire to spread rapidly, leading to fatal burn injuries, they said.Crime team and forensic officials inspected the site.
