Get Ready For More Force 8 Winds Forecast For Next Week

A south-easterly Gale Force 8 wind warning has been issued for Monday 19th January 2026, with the possibility of even stronger gusts as severe weather moves into the central Mediterranean.Meteorologists say the conditions are being driven by an exceptional temperature contrast of more than 30°C between eastern North Africa and eastern Europe. This sharp difference, combined with a disrupted polar vortex and the arrival of colder air over North Africa, is expected to fuel the development of an intense low-pressure system. The system is forecast to form over North Africa before moving towards the west-central Mediterranean on Monday, bringing strong and potentially damaging winds. The gale will be accompanied by a desert sand haze, reducing visibility and affecting air quality. As the low-pressure system passes, conditions are expected to deteriorate further. Rain showers are forecast to follow later on Monday and into the morning of Tuesday 20th January. These could be heavy at times and may be accompanied by thunderstorms and hail.Authorities are urging the public and maritime operators to take precautions, particularly those planning travel or activities at sea, as rapidly changing and hazardous weather conditions are expected over the next 48 hours.Remember to stay safe!•
