Congressional Just Gets Up To Graduate In Gulfstream Debut

Wait 5 sec.

First-time starter CONGRESSIONAL (c, 3, Constitution–Ghalia, by Medaglia d'Oro) needed the length of the Gulfstream stretch to get by but did managed to do so in the shadow of the wire to win his debut effort over Comprehensive (Hard Spun) at Gulfstream Park Saturday. Going two turns on the turf as one of three runners with no prior experience, the 7-2 shot enjoyed a nice trip along the rail under David Egan and stayed covered up while just drifting back a touch up the backstretch. Fourth and needing to pick up the pace as the top three began to get away on the turn, Congressional dove out wide of that trio and wore them all down despite racing largely on his wrong lead, just denying Comprehensive by a nose.
