It will be rescheduled shortly,” a Tata Group official said. The SRTT board was scheduled to meet on Saturday to induct Neville Tata as a trustee in line with an earlier plan. “Neville is likely to join the Sir Ratan Tata Trusts as a trustee later this week, subject to the unanimous approval of all trustees,” a senior Tata official had told The Indian Express earlier this week.Tata Trusts did not respond to a mail from The Indian Express. In November 2025, the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust (SDTT) had unanimously approved the induction of Neville Tata and Bhaskar Bhat, former Managing Director and CEO of Titan Company, as trustees for a three-year term beginning November 12. However, the SRTT board was unable to induct Neville due to certain procedural issues raised by trustee Venu Srinivasan, Chairman Emeritus of TVS Motor Company. The Sir Dorabji Tata Trust and the Sir Ratan Tata Trust are two principal trusts in the Tata Trusts framework and play a decisive role in overseeing the Tata Group through their shareholding in Tata Sons. Tata Trusts hold a 66 per cent stake in Tata Sons, the principal holding company of the $ 180-billion Tata Group.Apart from Noel Tata, the trustees of SRTT include Venu Srinivasan, former Defence Secretary Vijay Singh, Ratan Tata’s brother Jimmy N Tata, Jehangir H.C. Jehangir and Darius Khambata. The recent changes in the Tata Trusts followed the exit of Mehli Mistry on November 4. Mistry, a confidant of Ratan Tata, parted ways with the group after a public tussle with Noel Tata and other trustees, stating that “precipitating matters would cause irreparable harm to the reputation of the Tata Trusts.” His renomination proposal was voted down by remaining trustees. Neville Tata, an alumnus of Bayes Business School and INSEAD Singapore, has been steadily building his profile in the business world. In 2016, he joined Trent Ltd, a company closely associated with his family — founded by his grandmother Simone Tata and currently chaired by his father, Noel Tata.At Trent, Neville oversees operations of the Zudio retail chain, a popular fashion brand with presence in west and south India. His strategic vision and operational focus have played a major role in Zudio’s rapid expansion and growing market success.Story continues below this ad“The induction of Neville Tata onto the SRTT board is expected to significantly enhance his standing within the Tata Group,” said a Tata group observer. © The Indian Express Pvt LtdTags:MumbaiNoel Tata
